“Moody Japanese listening lounge with records spun live”
888 (named for hachi, Japanese for eight) is a Japanese restaurant and vinyl listening lounge on the ground floor of the JW Marriott on Clark Place. Master sushi chef Kiichi Okabe runs The Kounter, the kitchen handles hot plates like wagyu tataki, and the records are picked live through a custom sound system. Dinner runs high, so the smart play is the bar-only happy hour, 4 to 6 PM Sunday through Thursday: $3 oysters, $8 crispy tuna, short rib bao and kushiyaki, plus an $8 yuzu margarita or 888 Mule. The kitchen closes at 10 PM Sunday through Wednesday and 11 PM Friday and Saturday. Look for the red light.
Keep the crawl going, nearest first.
