The Local’s Take

“Grown-up neighborhood lounge”

The Velvet Room bills itself as Madison's neighborhood bar. It's a 21-and-up bar and lounge on Gallatin Pike South with cocktails, hookah, and a kitchen doing fish, wings and salads. The plate to know is the catfish with greens, mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. It also hosts R&B bingo nights and free birthday booths on Fridays.

It's open Thursday to Saturday, 4 to 11 PM. Thursday happy hour runs 4 to 7 PM with 2-for-1 well drinks, $10 specialty drinks and $10 hookahs.
